Fear No Hardships, Take Courage to Act --Narrate the “Hero in Harm’s Way”-Chen Zhao from BJCEEE

At the end of Sep. 2020, the gear box of No.1 charging crane for Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "FHS") in Vietnam broke down. After receiving the customer's consultant, NSE & BJCEEE actively responded. Affected by the global pandemic of COVID-19, we analyzed the cause of the accident by means of Web Conference & E-mail, and provided preliminary analysis report to the customer. In order to resume production ASAP, FHS sincerely invited technicians from NSE & BJCEEE to accident site to assist them to inspect the devices and provide technical support. Although the gear box of FHS had exceeded the warranty period, BJCEEE insists the spirit of contract and keeps strict and pragmatic in CDQ technology, decided to dispatch technicians to the site for inspection in Vietnam.

However, in the severe situation of global pandemic, especially in foreign countries, in order to block the pandemic, all countries and regions strictly control the entry-exit personnel and keep good control of the country. Vietnam has no exception, and go even farther than others. Vietnam has strict restrictions on the entry of overseas personnel. The inviter shall apply to the Vietnam government in advance, provide various credential documents, and register to the Vietnamese public security department. When entering Vietnam, the entrants shall be accompanied by the Health Department of Vietnam. Two Nucleic Acid Test Certificates shall also be provided for online reservation and application when leaving. After entering Vietnam, the entrants shall be quarantined for 14 days. After completion of the work in Vietnam, when returning China, Nucleic Acid Test and centralized quarantine for 14 days + home quarantine for 14 days shall be undertaken.

Under this circumstances, travel abroad is a great risk to personal health.That dispatching technicians to the site for inspection has become a worrying thing for BJCEEE. At this moment, Chen Zhao, an electrical technician from the Engineering Management Department, volunteered to take on the important task of on-site service. Chen Zhao participated in the construction, commissioning and technical guidance of the electrical work for FHS CDQ project during the construction of the project. He was conscientious and responsible, had rich on-site experience, and was very familiar with the working environment of FHS. FHS also recognized Chen Zhao's performance. BJCEEE determined that he was the exact person to undertake this important task.

The brave person had set out, the whole company was expecting that he would return healthy and safe. After overcoming the hardships, risks and inconveniences of life during the round trip and quarantine period, Chen Zhao entered Vietnam at night on 7th Jan. After the end of quarantine on 22nd Jan, he shifted to another hotel and go & back between the hotel and CDQ site. He inspected and analyzed the accident site of charging crane of CDQ#1 and the operation of charging crane of CDQ#2, solved the occasional electrical and automation problems of charging crane of CDQ#2, and held meetings with the customer, analyzing and discussing the accident of charging crane for CDQ#1 happened on site, and investigated the list of troubles raised by customer for CDQ#2, put forward reasonable suggestions, and successfully completed the assignment designated by BJCEEE. After returning to China, he was quarantined from 30th, Jan. to 13th, Feb., and arrived home on 14th, Feb. (the fourth day of the Lunar New Year), but he and his family had no complaints. On 15th, Feb., he submitted information to the community and was asked to be quarantined at home from 16th, Feb. to 1st, Mar., total 28 days in China, explaining the definition of "Hero in Harm’s Way" with practical actions.There must be someone bearing and suffering the hardships, so that we can live a peaceful life, as an ordinary employee in a common work place, he has done a great thing admired by others.

BJCEEE has called on all staff to learn from Chen Zhao's spirit of loving the work and being devoted to it, and of ignoring his own family, putting the company’s thing in priority, and to carry forward the spirit of fearing no hardships and taking courage to act. Everyone of us is like a beam of light, full of strength, and if such strength unites, BJCEEE must be developing towards a brighter way.
